The programme aims to cultivate in students a deeper knowledge of Chinese culture and broaden their vision with new perspectives to prepare them in meeting the challenges of the changing society. It enhances students’ Chinese language skills and cultural literacy, which are particularly essential for professions such as education, media and cultural management.

Proof of English proficiency is required for all applicants whose bachelor’s degrees were obtained from non-English medium institutions. These applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for English proficiency: a score of 537 (paper-based) or 74 (internet-based test) in TOEFL; or an overall band score of 6.0 in IELTS; or a score of 450 in the new College English Test (CET-6) of China; or a score of 60 (pass grade) in the Test for English Majors Level 8 (TEM-8) of China; or pass in both oral and written examinations in the Public English Test System Level 5 (PETS-5) of China.

Aims To enable students to develop multiple interpretive perspectives (religious and philosophical) on perennial and contemporary issues in different contexts of public affairs. To help students appreciate and respect diversity within modern society in order to assess and handle conflicting values in critically informed and creative ways. To help students further develop and reflect on their own values, so that they will be able to justify their own decisions, judgments and convictions, and so become informed and responsible citizens in their community, nation and the world. Applicants are expected to have advanced competence in spoken and written English. A good knowledge of other languages (including Chinese) would be an added advantage. If English was not the medium of instruction in their first degree, applicants are required to provide evidence of good English proficiency. At least one of the following scores or standards has been achieved: an overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS; OR a TOEFL score of 550 (Paper-based), or 79 (Internet-based); OR a score of 500 in CET-6; OR TEM-4 merit; OR TEM-8 pass.

The programme provides foundation knowledge about language and prepares students for special applications of linguistic analysis to problems arising from the students’ particular interests, careers and concerns. It trains students’ ability to solve language-related problems and has prepared graduates for a range of jobs which require good language skills and for further studies in linguistics.

Applicants whose first degree is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should: possess a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) OR a minimum IELTS overall band score of 6.5 OR Grade D or above in AS Use of English (HKALE) OR Level 4 or above in English Language (HKDSE); be able to communicate in English at an advanced level. Applicants from mainland China are encouraged to submit their TEM (minimum Level 8) test scores, where applicable.

Applicants applying to the MALCS Programme:should hold a bachelor’s degree (BA) from a recognised university or comparable institution; or a qualification deemed to be equivalent;

The MA programme in Literary and Comparative Studies (MALCS) offers students the opportunity for focused study while devoting the entire heft of the curriculum to literary studies in a global and comparative context. This Programme aims to provide, at the postgraduate level and with the needs of main target groups in mind, focused and vigorous training in Translation and Bilingual Communication. Academic QualificationA bachelor's degree of Chinese Medicine or Acupuncture, or other health profession disciplines; or in special circumstances, possess the equivalent training and be able to pass an entrance examination.

Using English as the medium of instruction, students will acquire new knowledge and develop new skills through seminars, workshops, case studies, group projects and presentations, clinical placement, field study and dissertation writing. This programme builds on students' previous knowledge and professional skills in Chinese medicine and is designed specifically for Chinese medicine practitioners wanting to develop expertise in practicing acupuncture in an English speaking environment. In addition to the content-related knowledge and understanding, our teaching is designed to improve the students’communication and social skills, clinical skills and problem solving skills in an English speaking environment.

Applicants must have: Obtained Grade E or above in Chinese Language and Culture in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination; or Obtained a bachelor’s degree with Chinese language as the primary medium of instruction in the major courses; or Passed the Chinese language test arranged by the School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU.

Academic QualificationA bachelor of Chinese Medicine or Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine degree; orEquivalent qualifications in Chinese medicine or Chinese pharmacy; orBe registered Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong who have passed the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination; orBe registered Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong with provision of training certificate in Chinese medicine or relevant disciplines and passed the admission assessment to be conducted by the School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU.

The aims and objectives of the programme are to cultivate and enhance students’ ability in proficiently applying Chinese medicine theories and methods to clinical practice as well as research in and development of Chinese medicine. After taking the programme, students’ ability to comprehend and master the theoretical knowledge of Chinese medicine will be strengthened. With a coordinated approach to teaching knowledge of various Chinese medicine specialties and introducing the latest development of research in Chinese medicine, the abilities and standards of the students in systematically applying Chinese medicine theories to clinical practice and research and development of Chinese medicine will be enhanced. Graduates of the programme will become competent in delivering medical and healthcare services as well as research and technological development of Chinese medicine.

Applicants must have: Obtained Grade E or above in Chinese Language and Culture in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination; or Obtained a bachelor’s degree with Chinese language as the primary medium of instruction in the major courses; or Passed the Chinese language test arranged by the School of Chinese Medicine, HKBU.

Academic QualificationA bachelor of Chinese Medicine or Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine degree; orA non-Chinese Medicine degree, but with qualifications equivalent to the above, e.g. applicants with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Science or Medicine ; orPharmacists or registered Chinese Medicine practitioners of Hong Kong; orGraduates of Professional Diploma of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine or programmes of similar nature, who have more than three years of relevant working experience.

The programme adopts a pragmatic approach to strengthen students’ knowledge and skills in pharmaceutical sciences in Chinese medicine. It aims at upgrading students’ ability to comprehend and master the theoretical knowledge of Chinese Medicine pharmacy so that their research ability and problem solving skills can be enhanced through learning of the latest research methodologies and technologies. The programme will help train a generation of modern and scientific professionals in applied Chinese Medicine pharmacy, especially in the areas of product development, quality assurance, drug safety assessment, production management and trading of Chinese medicines or/and healthcare products.

Applicants whose first degree is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should possess a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (internet-based test); or an overall band score of 6.5 in IELTS.
