The programme aims to cultivate in students a deeper knowledge of Chinese culture and broaden their vision with new perspectives to prepare them in meeting the challenges of the changing society. It enhances students’ Chinese language skills and cultural literacy, which are particularly essential for professions such as education, media and cultural management.
Proof of English proficiency is required for all applicants whose bachelor’s degrees were obtained from non-English medium institutions. These applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for English proficiency:
a score of 537 (paper-based) or 74 (internet-based test) in TOEFL; or

a score of 450 in the new College English Test (CET-6) of China; or

Applicants are expected to have advanced competence in spoken and written English. A good knowledge of other languages (including Chinese) would be an added advantage. If English was not the medium of instruction in their first degree, applicants are required to provide evidence of good English proficiency. The programme provides foundation knowledge about language and prepares students for special applications of linguistic analysis to problems arising from the students’ particular interests, careers and concerns. It trains students’ ability to solve language-related problems and has prepared graduates for a range of jobs which require good language skills and for further studies in linguistics.
Applicants whose first degree is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should:

Using English as the medium of instruction, students will acquire new knowledge and develop new skills through seminars, workshops, case studies, group projects and presentations, clinical placement, field study and dissertation writing. This programme builds on students' previous knowledge and professional skills in Chinese medicine and is designed specifically for Chinese medicine practitioners wanting to develop expertise in practicing acupuncture in an English speaking environment. In addition to the content-related knowledge and understanding, our teaching is designed to improve the students’communication and social skills, clinical skills and problem solving skills in an English speaking environment.

The aims and objectives of the programme are to cultivate and enhance students’ ability in proficiently applying Chinese medicine theories and methods to clinical practice as well as research in and development of Chinese medicine. After taking the programme, students’ ability to comprehend and master the theoretical knowledge of Chinese medicine will be strengthened. With a coordinated approach to teaching knowledge of various Chinese medicine specialties and introducing the latest development of research in Chinese medicine, the abilities and standards of the students in systematically applying Chinese medicine theories to clinical practice and research and development of Chinese medicine will be enhanced. The programme adopts a pragmatic approach to strengthen students’ knowledge and skills in pharmaceutical sciences in Chinese medicine. It aims at upgrading students’ ability to comprehend and master the theoretical knowledge of Chinese Medicine pharmacy so that their research ability and problem solving skills can be enhanced through learning of the latest research methodologies and technologies. The programme will help train a generation of modern and scientific professionals in applied Chinese Medicine pharmacy, especially in the areas of product development, quality assurance, drug safety assessment, production management and trading of Chinese medicines or/and healthcare products.
