The Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) is designed to challenge students with an interest in critical thinking, research and innovation. The development of depth of understanding and practical skills in a discipline is a key part of the program, however, the degree also focuses on instilling a culture of research and enquiry through early induction into the research ethos and access to research groups and facilities. The Law courses satisfy the requirements for the award of the professional LLB degree.

This program combines the professional LLB program with Bachelor of Science and Business. The Bachelor Science and Business has been developed to provide a new generation of scientists for today’s increasingly competitive and business-aware world. This program allows students to combine a coherent stream of studies in a contemporary Science discipline with courses that provide a broad background to business and management. Students will study a range of foundation business courses that will provide exposure to several aspects of business practices, and will also have the opportunity to increase their breadth of experience using electives, and select from a limited number of higher year courses to gain a greater understanding of a feature of the commercial domain. The program has been designed for students whose passion is Science, but who also recognise that awareness of contemporary business practices can be vital in the modern workplace.

Optometry combines the theoretical discipline of vision science with the clinical art of primary eye care. Vision science includes the optics of lenses and instruments, the physiology of the eye, the psychophysics of vision and the neuroscience of the brain. Optometry includes the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, the dispensing of spectacles and contact lenses, the management of people with special needs (children, low vision), sports vision and vision in the workplace. The School of Optometry and Vision Science offers a 5 year full-time dual award Bachelor of Optometry (Honours) / Bachelor of Science program. Graduates of this program will be able to register as an optometrist in Australia. The degree is also recognised in New Zealand and in most parts of Asia. Job opportunities in this field are excellent and are expected to remain excellent given the high visual demands in the modern computer-based workplace, and the aging population in Australia. An innovative feature of this program is its alternate entry mechanism. Students who do not achieve direct entry into the Optometry program may be eligible for a transfer position. Students wishing to apply for transfer into the BOptom (Hons) / BSc (3952) program will be expected to have:

The five-year dual degree program consisting of a Bachelor of Engineering (in Process Metallurgy, Physical Metallurgy, Ceramic Engineering or Materials Science) and a Master of Biomedical Engineering (BE/MBiomedE) is specifically designed to cater for students wishing to pursue a career in biomedical engineering through the technical base of materials science and engineering. The BE/MBiomedE dual degree is 240 units of credit (UOC) (5 years full-time) by allowing 18 UOC of graduate level MBiomedE courses to substitute for elective courses in the BE and one undergraduate BE elective to substitute for a MBiomedE elective. This overlap arrangement is only available to students who complete the BE/MBiomedE program. Students who discontinue the BE/MBiomedE program to complete the BE program only will have to complete the normal 192 UOC BE program but may be given credit for some of the BIOM courses completed. All students are required to have gained at least 12 weeks of approved industrial experience before graduation and to have submitted satisfactory reports on such work. Industrial experience is usually obtained during a long vacation at the end of years 2 and 3.
