Three years of supervised laboratory-based research (five years part-time) examined by thesis and oral. PhD students are typically science graduates, medical students combining clinical training with the PhD, and clinically qualified doctors undertaking scientific training.Research is in the areas of clinical transplantation, transplant immunology, orthopaedic research and regenerative medicine and covers basic biology through to clinical therapies.

A PhD degree by research over a minimum of three and a maximum of four years, including a probationary period of one year;Research subjects run the gamut from mathematical studies through small and macromolecules, cells, tissues and model organisms to clinical patients. Examination is by submission and viva voce examination of a thesis; Each student is assigned a primary supervisor and they will then assign an advisor or supervisory team to assist the student under their supervision;Training is available in transferable and specialist science skills.

The student will perform a research project in veterinary medicine, veterinary science or a biological science, and during the course of the year will also prepare a literature review in the subject of their research project and present the project in talks and/or posters to a Departmental audience. There are opportunities to present at external scientific meetings for many students. Students will be expected to take training courses in specialist areas as appropriate. Examination is entirely based on the dissertation presented at the end of the year.

The PhD degree is a minimum of three years of full-time research with an individual supervisor.At the end of their degree, students will produce a written thesis, which will be assessed by independent experts during a viva.This is the principal research degree offered in the Department of Zoology and the great majority of our students are registered for this degree.Zoology is a Department that brings together researchers from a great diversity of disciplines, ranging from cell biology to field ecology. What unites us is an interest in the whole organism, and in how systems interact across different levels of organization to generate the complexity of form, function and behaviour that are observed in the living world.

The main aim of the Arts, Creativity and Education (ACE) course is to provide a broad-based intellectual exploration, from an interdisciplinary perspective, of the key arts educational debates amongst policy makers, practitioners and researchers in the UK and abroad. The route will provide an opportunity for students to engage with a range of discourses within arts and culture and within the processes of teaching and learning. It will include contributions from specialists in a range of disciplines, including performing arts, drama, theatre, music, visual art, design and technology (as well as cross-domain theories and principles). Key concepts such as creativity, design, performance and aesthetics will be considered from philosophical, psychological, cognitive and cultural perspectives.
